Traveling to Romania

Please read everything on this page! We’ve included necessary information about travel and stay.

Before You Leave

  • Check the Travel Requirements section to make sure you have all necessary documents to enter Romania and return home.

  • Passport: Check the expiration date! It should be valid for at least 6 months after your travel date.

  • Visa: U.S. citizens do not need a visa to enter Romania; everyone else, please check your country’s requirements. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.

  • Car Rental: If you’d like to rent a car, we recommend booking it in advance. Automatic Transmission options are limited. We’ve had a pleasant experience with KlassWagen, and they are open 24 hours.

  • Credit Card: Check with your credit card service to let them know you’ll be out of the country. Some cards just work, but better to be safe than broke ;)

  • Cash: There will be a currency exchange booth at the airport. We recommend exchanging 50-100 USD (check the latest exchange rate here) at the airport. Cards are widely accepted, but we find having a little cash helps.

  • Phone: Call your carrier and make sure you have international calling and data, if needed. At the very least, download a map of Bucharest on your phone for offline use.

  • Staying in Touch: Download WhatsApp on your phone as it will be the easiest way to stay in touch with our event coordinator, the bride and groom, and each other!

Flying into OTP

(Henri Coanda Airport)

If you’re flying from the US, we recommend Turkish Airlines. They have great service at decent prices; in our experience, they have more options with shorter layovers compared to other major airlines.

Where to Stay

For the weekend of the wedding (Friday, May 27 - Sunday, May 29), we have arranged group rates at Hotel Royal.

If you’d like to book a room here, please fill out this form and we will help you!

If you’re planning on arriving early, you can find hotel recommendations and other useful information on the “Things To Do” page.

After You Land

  • Exchange some cash (see the “Before You Leave” section above) in case your credit card gets declined.

  • Collect your bags

  • If you’re arriving on Friday and leaving Sunday, we recommend getting your COVID test at the airport. Results take a minimum of 24 hours, and you will need them to return home. If you need help scheduling your test, please Contact Us.

  • We will be organizing a shuttle service from Bucharest to Manasia. Contact Us with your arrival date and flight number as soon as you have them. We’ll get back to you with more information once we’ve developed a schedule.

  • If you need cab service, we recommend Uber instead of the Taxi service at the airport as it will save you money.

  • Once you’ve had a chance to recover from the flight, check the “Things To Do” page and enjoy Romania!

Travel Requirements

  • Passport: Check the expiration date! It should be valid for at least 6 months after your travel date.

  • Visa: U.S. citizens do not need a visa to enter Romania; everyone else, please check your country’s requirements. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.

  • COVID-19: The situation is evolving continuously. We’re hoping for the best, but we will keep you updated with the latest information. For now, here is the latest guidance:

    • Have your vaccination card with your passport.

    • Assume you will need a negative COVID test 48 hours before your flights to and from Romania.

    • Make an appointment for a COVID test if you can to avoid a line. COVID test results take at least 24 hours, so make sure you give yourself extra time to get your results.

    • You’ll need masks for both flights and your stay in Romania. We recommend bringing more masks than you think you’ll need.
